Go into the past and visit Jackson County’s largest collection of days-gone-by at Oakwood Acres. At this village you will experience the 1920’s, 1930’s and more.
Nestled in a narrow valley is a re-created village reminiscent of life in the early 20th century. Oakwood Acres was created by Travis Sparks and consists of a home, school, country store, blacksmith shop, gas station and chapel. Mr. Sparks has graciously invited the public to tour the village, but be sure to call first.

Build it and they will come. Over the span of twenty plus years Travis continues to capture the historic look and feel of a bygone era. Travis’s field of dreams has a gas station and garage, a blacksmith shop, a homestead with horse drawn farm equipment, a laundry building, post office, general store, one room school house, church, library, barber shop and more.
When you wonder what difference one man can do? Travis Sparks is living proof that one man can accomplish anything if you put your vision into action. Visit Oakwood Acres, and Travis will inspire you to live your dreams.

Live the stories of days gone by with the Mayor of Oakwood Acres, Travis E. Sparks himself. Yes he is also the barber, the teacher, the preacher, the blacksmith, the store keeper, the mechanic, postmaster librarian, and a true jack-of-all-trades.
Oakwood Acres was built entirely by Travis E. Sparks. After retiring, Travis began building the village as a hobby to share memories of how life once was for families living on Sand Lick. He built the village alone with his own hands, one nail and one board at a time. He searches far and near to find the right stuff which he purchased with his hard earned money, and yes, he loves to share this history with all who will take the time.
Whether an individual or a group, Travis invites you to bring a picnic and experience the past at Oakwood Acres.

From the stop light in McKee go 2.5 miles north on US HWY 421 then turn right on Sand Lick Road and go .6 miles.
DIRECTIONS: (from Madison County)
From the Big Hill Welcome Center go 12.5 miles south on US HWY 421 then turn left on Sand Lick Road (near the 17 mile road marker) and go .6 miles.
